Descriptive survey research was adopted in the study in which questionnaire was used to elicit information from the respondents. Simple random sampling techniques were used to select 180 respondents who were randomly selected from 6 Senior Secondary Schools I, II and III in the study area. Descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation were used to analyze the data collected from the respondents based on the research questions while a t-test was used to analyze the research hypotheses of the study. Findings of the study revealed that students are addicted to social media and it influences their academic performance. It reveals the social media they are more exposed to are WhatsApp and Facebook, they are addicted to these social media platforms and it also reveals that social media positively impacts their academic performance. The findings also revealed that there is a significant relationship between social media and academic performance of students. Also, there exists a statistically significant relationship between addictiveness to social media and the academic performance of students. The study therefore recommends among others that Seminars should be organized in the various schools or faculties to enlighten students more about the possible implications of social media usage on their academic performance.
