The study adopts quantitative data using a survey design approach, we collected data from 200 SMEs and conducted in-depth questionnaire responses with 20 owners/managers. The study’s results show a significant positive correlation between effective accounting practices and SME performance. Specifically, the study found that SMEs with strong financial reporting, budgeting, and internal control practices tend to have better financial performance, including higher revenue, profitability, and cash flow. Additionally, our findings suggest that accounting practices have a mediating effect on the relationship between SME characteristics (e.g., size, age, industry type) and performance.
