The aim of this study is to examine the role of internal audit in fraud detection and control in a public institution. In achieving this objective the study adopted a survey method through the distribution of questionnaires to the respondents in Yobe Broadcasting Corporation Damaturu. The population of the study comprises the entire staff of Yobe Broadcasting Corporation Damaturu, which is made up of management staff, intermediate staff and junior staff giving a total of 133. A sample of 30 has been selected as this research's sample size and the criteria used is random sampling techniques. The data collected were analyzed using simple descriptive and inferential statistics the results show that internal audit functions significantly affect fraud detection and control. The study also found that the efficiency of internal audit has a significant impact on fraud detection and control, and the effectiveness of internal audit has a significant impact on fraud detection and control in YBC Damaturu in line with the results the study recommends that competent and qualified audit staff be employed to detect and control fraud.
