Abstract
This study examines the impact of Nigeria's foreign policy on its neighbor, Niger, with a specific focus on the 2023 coup d'état. It explores the historical development of Nigeria's foreign policy, its emphasis on regional cooperation, and its bilateral relations with Niger. The research investigates the causes and consequences of the coup, analyzing its impact on Niger's political landscape and regional stability. Drawing on existing research on regional power dynamics, the study aims to understand the multifaceted nature of Nigeria's influence on Niger. The research employs a qualitative approach, analyzing data from scholarly articles, news reports, and policy documents. The findings highlight the significance of security cooperation between Nigeria and Niger in countering terrorism. Economic ties hold potential for further development, while cross-border migration and the 2023 coup present challenges that require a more comprehensive approach. The study concludes that Nigeria's foreign policy has a significant impact on Niger, particularly in security matters. However, economic and political relations require further refinement. It recommends strengthening regional counterterrorism efforts, promoting economic diversification, addressing cross-border migration issues, supporting democratic processes in Niger, and fostering open communication between the two countries. This research contributes to the understanding of regional power dynamics and offers valuable insights for policymakers aiming to build a more stable and prosperous relationship between Nigeria and Niger...
