Abstract
This study investigates the impact of anxiety disorders on the academic performance of students at the Community College of Arabic and Islamic Studies (CCAIS) in Dutsinma, Katsina State. Anxiety disorders, characterized by excessive worry and fear, can significantly impair cognitive functions, concentration, and emotional regulation, adversely affecting students' academic success. This research aims to explore the prevalence of anxiety disorders, identify the types most commonly experienced, and examine their specific effects on academic performance within this unique educational context. The theoretical framework incorporates existing research on anxiety's impact on academic outcomes, highlighting the need for culturally sensitive interventions. Empirical literature reveals that anxiety disorders can lead to lower grades, decreased engagement, and higher course withdrawal rates. A descriptive survey design was employed, targeting all senior secondary school students (N2022) at CCAIS. Stratified random sampling was used to select a representative sample of 200 students. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire, validated for content and construct, and pilot-tested for reliability (Cronbach's alpha  0.72). Statistical analysis involved descriptive and inferential techniques to determine the relationship between anxiety disorders and academic performance. Findings indicate a significant negative impact of anxiety disorders on students'' academic achievements, with affected students displaying lower GPAs and increased difficulty in completing coursework. Key causes of anxiety included academic pressures, concentration issues, and social comparison. The study underscores the necessity for targeted interventions to manage anxiety, which could enhance students'' academic performance.
