Tock concentrations of each of the extracts were made, then 4ml of Dimethyl sulfoxid was added and reconstituted properly, which gave a stock concentration of 10mg/ml of each extract. Then two-fold serial dilutions were made from each of the stock concentration to get graded concentrations (5, 2.5, 1.25 and 0.63mg/ml) of each of the crude extracts. The antimicrobial activity determination was carried out by using an agar well diffusion assay. The antimicrobial activity of the extract of plants under study were tested against five bacterial species. The bacterial suspensions were adjusted to 0.5 McFarland turbidity standards and inoculated into previously sterilized fungi cultures were inoculated into previously sterilized muller-Hinton Agar plates while the standardized fungi cultures were inoculated onto savored dextrose agar plates. Five wells were made on each of the MHA and SDA plates, Aliquots of 80ul of each of the wells in the culture plates were previously seeded with the test organisms. Ciprofloxacin single disc (10ug) and miconazole (50ug/ml) served as the positive controls against the bacteria and fungi organisms respectively, the cultures were incubated, and the antimicrobial potential for each extract was determined. The antimicrobial activity result showed that S. aureus and E. coli have the greatest susceptibility with maximum IZD of 5mm and 7mm respectively at 1mg/ml followed by P.aeuruginosa. (12D 4mm) and finally B. subtillic (12D 2.5mm). ...Preview Download Preview +Other Pharmaceutical Technology project topics and materials you might be interested in»Comparative analysis of the acidity of different brands of folic acid sold in Owerri»Spectroscopic analysis of the first eluate of Piper Guineense extract»Knowledge, attitude and practice of prescription of drugs among school of community health science College of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Zamfara state»Analysis of the impact of electronic prescribing on medication safety and efficiency»Phytochemical screening, proximate and elemental analysis of two varieties of bitter kola (Garcinia kola) seed sold in Mariri market, Kano state»Identification of phytochemicals responsible for anti-ulcer activity of acioa barteri using high performance liquid chromatography-diode array detector (HPLC-DAD)»Antimicrobial activity of Acioa Barteri and its synergestic effect with Darlium Guineense
