Abstract
This project work was aimed at evaluating and examining, The Role of an Auditor in the face of Corporate Failure, with a special focus on the operational activities of Polaris Bank Plc, Lokoja Branch, Kogi State. This is made worse considering the contemporary global business networks. Despite the evolution of corporate governance practices and other strategic managerial and stakeholder actions, firms fail to meet the desired stakeholders’ needs. The research was based on the data collected from the staff of Polaris Bank, Lokoja Branches, Kogi State. The data was collected using questionnaires and observations. In analyzing the data collected, the Simple Percentage was applied and the Chi-Square(X2), statistical technique was adopted for the purpose of testing the formulated hypotheses for the purpose of this research study. The responses collected from the sample are forty (40) respondents from Polaris Plc, Lokoja Branch, which showed amongst others that, there are roles played by auditors in preventing corporate business failure external auditors’ unethical behaviour does influence business failures amongst organizations. Based on the findings of this research work, it was recommended among other things that, The management should define the scope of the audit and state in clear terms its function so as to achieve the desired internal control, there is basically a serious need for the auditors to get support and co-operation from all the staffs and officers as well as the management at large. ...
