Abstract
Antenatal care education plays a crucial role in improving pregnancy outcomes by equipping expectant mothers with essential knowledge on maternal health, nutrition, and childbirth preparedness. This study examines the perceived impact of antenatal care education on pregnancy outcomes among midwives in Ogbor, Aba, Abia State. The study assesses midwives'' knowledge regarding antenatal education, evaluates its effectiveness in improving maternal and fetal health, and identifies the key aspects believed to have the most significant impact on pregnancy outcomes. A descriptive research design was adopted, utilizing structured questionnaires to collect data from midwives in selected healthcare facilities. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings reveal that the majority of midwives acknowledge the importance of antenatal education in reducing pregnancy-related complications, improving maternal nutrition, and enhancing neonatal health. Key challenges in antenatal education delivery include inadequate resources, cultural beliefs, and financial constraints among expectant mothers. The study concludes that antenatal care education is an essential component of maternal healthcare that significantly influences pregnancy outcomes. It recommends increased investment in antenatal programs, enhanced midwifery training, and community-based sensitization efforts to ensure better maternal and child health.
