Abstract
This study investigates the utilization of school libraries by students and teachers in selected secondary schools within Jos North Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State, Nigeria. School libraries are essential to enhancing academic performance, fostering a culture of reading, and supporting the educational needs of students and teachers. The objectives of this research are to assess the frequency and purpose of library usage among students and teachers, examine the adequacy of available resources, evaluate user satisfaction with library services, and identify the challenges encountered in accessing library facilities. A descriptive survey design was adopted, and data were collected through questionnaires distributed to a representative sample of students and teachers from selected schools in Jos North LGA. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, with results presented in tables and discussed comprehensively. The findings reveal that although school libraries are moderately used, their resources are often insufficient to meet the academic needs of users. Most respondents visit the library primarily for academic purposes, such as studying and completing assignments. However, the limited availability of digital resources, outdated collections, and inadequate library hours were highlighted as significant barriers to effective library use. Satisfaction levels varied, with respondents expressing a need for improved facilities, more extensive collections, and extended operating hours. The study concludes that school libraries in Jos North LGA play a critical role in supporting academic activities but require enhanced funding, improved resource allocation, and policy support to fully realize their potential. Based on the findings, recommendations are provided for school administrators, government agencies, and library staff to improve library infrastructure, resource availability, and user accessibility. These improvements are crucial for fostering a supportive educational environment that meets the needs of students and teachers, ultimately contributing to improved educational outcomes....
