Emerging trends in e-health information management practice - case study of Federal Medical Centre Owo, Ondo state

Abstract
This research project examined the emerging trends in E-Health Information Management Practice in Federal Medical Centre Owo, Ondo State, Nigeria. The study used a descriptive survey research design and involved a population of 63 Health Records professionals, with complete enumeration used in place of sample size. Data was collected through self-structured questionnaires that consisted mostly of closed-ended type questions, and data was presented using frequency tables and simple percentages. The findings revealed that all respondents had prior knowledge of E-Health Information Management practice, with a significant portion having a very high or high level of knowledge. Additionally, almost all respondents had a good understanding of Electronic Medical Records (EMRs). The research also found that electronic medical record (EMR) implementation, confidentiality and security of patient records, data quality and data analysis skills, and cloud computing are all emerging trends in e-health information management, with the vast majority of respondents agreeing with these statements. However, the research also identified several challenges militating against the successful implementation of E-Health Information Management Practice, including high costs of implementing and maintaining E-Health systems, limited computer skills among healthcare providers, poor electricity supply and lack of constant internet connectivity, and inadequate relevant technical staff. Based on the findings, the study recommends increased investment in technical infrastructure, ongoing training of healthcare providers, and collaboration with private sector stakeholders to enhance E-Health implementation and uptake in the study area. ...
