Abstract
This study examines the impact of staff training on worker productivity in the public sector, focusing on the Personnel Services Department of Taraba State Polytechnic, Jalingo Campus, from 2019 to 2024. The research aims to identify the effects of training on employees' performance, explore strategies for implementing training programs, evaluate the effectiveness of such programs, and address challenges associated with training initiatives. Drawing on the Resource-Based View (RBV) and Human Capital theories, the study highlights training as a critical factor for enhancing organizational competitiveness and achieving sustainable performance. Using a case study approach with self-administered questionnaires and chi-square analysis, the research reveals a significant positive relationship between tailored training programs and enhanced worker performance. Additionally, the study uncovers challenges such as inadequate training needs assessment, suboptimal management attitudes, and limited resources. Recommendations include designing need-based training programs, employing transparent selection criteria for trainees, and fostering organizational commitment to capacity building.
