Abstract
This study investigates the Packed Cell Volume (PCV) levels among pregnant women attending antenatal care at General Hospital Gboko. Packed Cell Volume, also known as hematocrit, is a critical indicator of anemia, a common health challenge in pregnancy that can adversely affect both maternal and fetal outcomes. The research aimed to assess the prevalence of abnormal PCV levels and identify potential factors contributing to low hematocrit values among the antenatal population. A sample population of 74 pregnant women was used. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and medical records, with PCV values measured and recorded during routine antenatal visits. The study analyzed the relationship between PCV levels and factors such as gestational age, nutritional status, parity, and history of malaria or helminthic infections. In conclusion, the determination of packed cell volume (PCV) among pregnant women attending General Hospital Gboko provided valuable insights into their overall health and potential risks during pregnancy. The study''s findings shed light on the prevalence of anemia and other hematological conditions among this specific population, emphasizing the importance of regular monitoring and intervention to ensure maternal well-being. Several recommendations emerged to enhance maternal health outcomes in this community: Routine Antenatal Screening Programs: Establish routine antenatal screening programs for anemia and hematological disorders, incorporating PCV measurements as a standard practice. This proactive approach would enable early detection of potential health issues, allowing healthcare providers to implement timely interventions and personalized care plans tailored to each pregnant woman''s needs....
