This study examined the prevalence, causes, and health implications of open defecation in Akaajime. A descriptive survey design was adopted, and data were collected from 100 respondents using structured questionnaires and key informant interviews. The findings revealed that 61% of households lack toilet facilities, and 45% of respondents still practice open defecation in bushes and farmlands. The major factors influencing this practice include lack of toilet facilities (41%), high cost of construction (26%), and cultural beliefs (15%). Common health issues linked to open defecation include diarrhea (36%), typhoid fever (28%), intestinal worms (19%), and cholera (17%). The study concludes that open defecation persists despite awareness of its dangers due to socio-economic and infrastructural challenges.
