Abstract
This study investigated the effect of boss/secretary relationships on staff management and productivity in selected establishments in Owerri, Imo State. The research was driven by the need to understand how interpersonal dynamics between bosses and secretaries influence communication, task execution, and the overall administrative effectiveness of organizations. A descriptive survey research design was adopted, and data were gathered using structured questionnaires distributed to 100 respondents selected through a stratified random sampling technique. The Yaro Yamane formula was used to determine the sample size, and data were analyzed using frequency tables, percentages, and chi-square statistical tools to test the hypotheses. The findings revealed that a positive boss/secretary relationship contributes significantly to improved staff coordination, effective communication flow, and enhanced productivity. It also showed that poor relationships could lead to communication breakdowns, role conflicts, and reduced motivation among staff. The study concluded that a cordial and professionally respectful relationship between bosses and secretaries fosters trust, efficiency, and improved organizational output. Based on the findings, it was recommended that organizations should establish clear ethical boundaries, encourage professional development, and implement communication training for both secretaries and managerial staff.
