The reviewed literature suggests a strong correlation between effective internal governance mechanisms and improved risk management practices within Nigerian deposit money banks (DMBs). This study is anchored on the Shareholders Theory. The study also adopted an Ex-post facto research design. In this study, secondary data were used. A sample of all the 16 listed Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) whose shares are quoted on the Nigerian stock exchange as at 31 December 2021 was selected using a Census Sampling technique. Panel data analysis was employed, adopting the Ordinary Least Squares Regression Analysis as well as the analysis of variance of ANOVA as the technique of data analysis. The hypotheses were analyzed and tested using Stata Version 12. The finding of the study reveals that board independence has a significant effect on the credit risk of the listed firms. Board size, board composition and board independence have positively impacted the credit risk management of listed Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) in Nigeria. Further findings equally suggest that there is a positive relationship of Board independence with capital risk and liquidity risk.
