Abstract
This project focuses on the design and production of a modern kaftan using a combination of denim and Ankara fabrics. The study was carried out to explore how the fusion of these two distinct materials can enhance the aesthetic appeal, durability, and functionality of traditional kaftan garments. Data were gathered through observations, interviews with tailors and fashion consumers, and a market survey of available denim and Ankara fabrics. Findings revealed that Ankara is valued for its vibrant colors, cultural significance, and lightweight texture, while denim is preferred for its durability, structure, and long-lasting quality. The design process involved creating sketches, selecting appropriate denim and Ankara fabric combinations, drafting kaftan patterns, cutting, and assembling the garment using standard sewing techniques. Special attention was given to color harmony, fabric weight balance, and neat finishing to ensure comfort and visual appeal. The completed kaftan was evaluated based on fitting, durability, appearance, and overall user satisfaction. Results showed that the fusion of denim and Ankara produced a fashionable, comfortable, and unique kaftan suitable for both casual and semi-formal wear. The project concludes that combining denim with Ankara significantly improves the creative potential of kaftan design by blending traditional and contemporary fashion elements. It recommends further exploration of mixed-fabric kaftan styles and encourages designers to adopt innovative fabric combinations to meet modern fashion demands....
