Abstract
This research work was conducted to determine factors influencing the use of Long Lasting Insecticide Nets among nursing mothers in Bida Local Government Area of Niger State. Among the objectives was to investigate whether ignorance affects the use of Long Lasting Insecticide Nets among nursing mothers, and to examine whether poverty affects the use of Long Lasting Insecticide Nets among nursing mothers. This research use descriptive survey to sample pregnant women attending the health centers in the study area. Questionnaire is the instrument used to gather and analyze the data. 100 questionnaires were distributed, out of which 100 were also retrieved. The findings showed that the education status of a nursing mother may affect the use of long-lasting insecticide treated net and that a lack of knowledge on the benefits of long-lasting insecticides treated net can discourage a person from using them. The finding revealed that with a grand mean of 2.71, it can be deduced that respondents in the study area agree with the assertion that weather condition affects the use of long-lasting insecticide treated nets among nursing mothers. Most respondents agree that the education status of a nursing mother may affect the use of long-lasting insecticide treated net and that lack of knowledge on the benefits of long-lasting insecticides treated net can discourage a person from using them. In conclusion, recommendations were made that accessibility and affordability of long-lasting insecticide nets are also germane to having a widespread usage of these vital resource and the government should kindly ensure that it is subsidized at a fee that would be readily affordable to prospective poor users. Middlemen should also be prevented from making fortunes from illegal sales of these highly subsidized nets. ...
