Abstract
This project focused on the formulation and evaluation of toilet soap using locally sourced, suitable raw materials such as palm oil, palm kernel oil, stearic acid, caustic soda, glycerin, ethanol, sugar, and selected additives. The cold process method was employed, which allowed for the preservation of natural compounds and ensured effective saponification. The formulated soap was assessed based on key physicochemical parameters, including pH, hardness, foamability, moisture content, total fatty matter (TFM), cleansing efficiency, and biodegradability. Results showed that the soap had a smooth texture, appealing color, and good fragrance. It recorded a pH of 9.2, indicating it is mildly alkaline and safe for skin use. The moisture content was 14.5%, contributing to better hardness and shelf stability. TFM was 72%, which is within acceptable limits for high-quality toilet soap. Foamability and cleansing ability were both rated high, and biodegradability was above 80%, showing environmental friendliness. The successful formulation demonstrates the potential for small-scale production using local resources to produce cost-effective, skin-friendly, and eco-conscious toilet soap. This project supports public health goals, local economic empowerment, and sustainable development. ...
