Abstract
This study examines the perception of undergraduate students towards prank video content on Facebook, specifically focusing on the students of the Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) department at the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri (FPNO). In recent years, prank videos have become a popular form of entertainment on social media platforms, especially Facebook, where content creators engage viewers through pranks that range from harmless jokes to extreme and controversial actions. This research seeks to understand how these videos impact students emotionally, socially, and culturally, and whether they influence students’ behaviors, attitudes, and perceptions of online content creators. A descriptive research design was employed, with a population of 400 undergraduate students of the SLT department, and a sample size of 80 students selected using simple random sampling. The study collected primary data through structured questionnaires, which were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The research aimed to address key objectives such as identifying the emotional responses of students to prank videos, examining the influence of these videos on their social behaviors, and evaluating their perceptions of content creators' responsibility in posting prank videos. The findings revealed that prank videos significantly affect students' emotional responses, with most students expressing positive emotions like laughter and amusement, although some found certain pranks offensive. The study also found that prank videos influenced social behaviors, with a noticeable number of students engaging in imitation or sharing of pranks in real-life settings. Furthermore, students emphasized the need for ethical considerations in content creation, suggesting that prank video creators should take responsibility for the potential impacts on their audience....
