Abstract
The rapid growth of cryptocurrency has generated significant debate globally, particularly in developing economies such as Nigeria, where regulatory uncertainty and public interest continue to rise. This study examines the media framing of cryptocurrency regulation in Nigeria within the context of Mass Communication. It explores how Nigerian media organizations present, interpret, and influence public understanding of government policies and regulatory actions surrounding cryptocurrency activities. The study adopts a descriptive research design, using content analysis and survey methods to examine selected media reports and audience perceptions. Data were gathered from newspapers, online news platforms, and responses from media audiences and industry stakeholders. The findings reveal that Nigerian media predominantly frame cryptocurrency regulation through themes of risk, financial instability, fraud, and government control, while relatively less attention is given to innovation, financial inclusion, and economic opportunities. The study also finds that media framing significantly influences public perception, with many audiences associating cryptocurrency primarily with illegality and financial insecurity due to dominant negative framing. However, alternative framing that highlights innovation and technological advancement tends to generate more balanced perceptions among respondents. The study concludes that media framing plays a crucial role in shaping public understanding of cryptocurrency regulation in Nigeria. It further emphasizes that biased or one-sided framing may contribute to misinformation and policy misunderstanding. The study recommends balanced and objective reporting by media organizations, improved regulatory communication strategies, and enhanced media literacy among the public to ensure a more informed understanding of cryptocurrency issues in Nigeria....
