The development of recreational facilities within housing estates is a critical component of urban planning that significantly enhances residents' quality of life. Despite the recognized benefits of these amenities in promoting physical activity, social interaction, and overall well-being, there is a significant gap in understanding the cost implications of different types of recreational facilities within these housing estates. This lack of comprehensive cost analysis hampers the ability of urban planners, developers, and policymakers to make informed decisions that balance financial constraints with the need for high-quality recreational spaces. The study adopted a cross-sectional survey design and questionnaires were used for data collection. The data collected was analyzed using the simple statistical tools presented in tables, frequencies, and percentages. The results reveal parks, sports courts, gyms, swimming pools, community centers and playgrounds as the types of recreational facilities found in residential estates in Ebonyi State, with high impact on community health, property value and social cohesion. The findings also reveal that parks, gyms and sports courts are the most cost-effective recreational facilities. The study further revealed that recreational facilities have direct and indirect costs.
