The major objectives of this project is to factors responsible for high cost of living on Nigerian public servants, implications of the high cost of living and to evaluate ways of improving good living standard for public servants in Kogi State. The methodology adopted in gathering data was the descriptive method, using both primary and secondary methods. From a population of 79, a sample size of 66 respondents was selected using the Taro Yamane formula. Findings revealed, among others, that the high cost of living in Nigeria has had a severe and multifaceted impact on public servants, particularly those in state-level ministries such as the Ministry of Finance in Lokoja. Salaries have remained largely stagnant while the prices of essential goods and services continue to rise, leaving many civil servants struggling to meet basic daily needs. This economic imbalance contributes not only to financial hardship but also to a reduction in productivity, poor work performance, and, in some cases, unethical behavior such as bribery and embezzlement as coping mechanisms. It has become increasingly difficult for public servants to maintain a balanced life due to rising expenses in food, transport, rent, healthcare, and education. In view of the findings, the study recommended that Federal and State governments should urgently review the salaries of public servants to reflect current inflation and living costs. This review should be regular and implemented across all grades of civil servants. In addition to basic salaries, cost-of-living allowances should be provided to help employees cope with inflationary pressures, especially in states like Kogi, where state workers earn less than their federal counterparts....Preview Download Preview +Other Public Administration project topics and materials you might be interested in»Impact of industrial conflict on the performance of workers in the government parastatal (a case study of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)»Human resources as a catalyst for economic growth and development in Nigeria (a case study of Abuja municipal area council) »The influence of effective personnel management practice in organization performance»Local government financial autonomy and grass root development in Nigeria (a case study of Afikpo north local government area)»Effects of delayed payment of lecturers salaries and wages on students performance»Manpower training and development as a tool for effective performance in public sector in Nigeria»The impact of poor revenue generation on the development of Local Government Areas»Fuel subsidy removal and the Nigerian economy (a case study of Abakiliki local government area, Ebonyi state) »Enhancing political stability in Nigeria through good governance ( a case study of Abia state)»Niger-Delta crisis and its impact on socio-economic development in Nigeria»Accountability and corruption in local government in Nigeria (Case study of Bonny local government area of Rivers state)»Political instability a major hindrance to effective policy implementation and good governance (a case study of Nigeria 1983 -1999)»Bureaucracy and efficiency (a case study of Enugu state civil service)»The assessment of the roles of local government towards rural development - a case study of Katcha local government area of Niger state»Impact of collective bargaining techniques on industrial relations practice (a case study of two selected firms from NUPENG and NUBIFE)
