The major objective of this project is to assess the causes of flooding in Kogi State and to evaluate the effects of flooding in Kogi State. The methodology adopted in gathering data was the descriptive method, both primary and secondary methods. The major instrument used to gather data from primary sources is the questionnaire. From a population of 195,216, a sample size of 150 respondents was selected using a simple random sampling technique. Findings revealed that flooding had a devastating effect on people and properties in the state; among the devastating effects are food shortages, economic hardship, etc. It was also observed that the major causes of flooding in Kogi State are not heavy rainfall but the release of water from the dams in Kainji and Ciroro. In view of the findings, it was recommended that the release of water from dams in Nigeria and the neighboring country of Cameroon should be done systematically; this involves collaboration between Nigeria and Cameroonian governments.
