The objectives of this project are to identify the causes of farmer-herder conflict in Kogi State, to examine the effects of herdsmen and farmers' conflicts on socio-economic development and poverty reduction in Kogi State, to highlight the trends and drivers of herders– farmers conflict in Nigeria, and to examine the conflict management techniques in Nigeria. The methodology adopted in gathering data was the descriptive method, using both primary and secondary methods. The major instrument used to gather data from primary sources is the questionnaire. From a population of 3,314,043, a sample size of 400 respondents was selected using the simple Taro Yamane formula. Findings revealed that the consequences of farmer-herder conflicts are: loss of life and property, psychological trauma to victims and a huge economic burden on the government. It was also revealed that farmer-herder conflicts can lead to displacement of people from their homes and communities; they can reduce the level of productive activities and dwindle the food supply, with rising costs of food. In view of the findings, it was recommended that the federal government should provide plans to stop armed attacks on farming communities and it should consider limiting the weapon usage of weapons by Fulani herdsmen. Federal Government should engage peace and conflict resolution experts in dealing with issues concerning herdsmen-farmer crises.
